What is it with romance lately? Does true love still exist?
It seems as though romance is budding and then quickly dying all over the place, not necessarily in my own life but in the movies and books and all over the web.
Everywhere you turn there are people getting married, people splitting up left and right and then feeling proud to be showcasing it all over the web. For example, the recent split between John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston. It is almost like they are constantly under the spotlight with news flashes like “Jennifer seems to be bouncing back just fine, she has just been spotted leaving Starbucks in Cabo San Lucas with a bottled water in hand.”
Almost as if love is dispensable and can be changed in for the next new model at a moments notice. It could be that too many people don’t think things through when they run off to get hitched. They think that it is way too easy to get hitched and then dump their new spouse off with just the signing of a paper and joint custody every other weekend.
Does it really have to be that way? Seems like long lasting true love no longer exists and we are constantly reminded of it with flashes of movies like ‘The Notebook’ that seem to be suddenly popping up and crawling out of the woodwork. Or has this kind of romance really been here all along and we are just caught up in making a living and worrying about how to make our lifestyle more eco-friendly?
Maybe we need to look outside of the box and focus on what really matters and what really makes us happy. Is society actually trying to say that we need to go back to pure old fashioned romance? Is everyone tired of the spendable relationships, the way we can toss them into the garbage like yesterdays news? Now are there still men out there like Noah Calhoun from The Notebook? The ones that believe in true love and spend years building a dream home for a woman he wasn’t even sure would ever come back to him. That kind of love, does it exist? Maybe it’s time to go back to the days of Noah and Allie Calhoun and the dreams of the existence that true love prevails no matter what the circumstances.
No one ever said it was easy even up until the end but like my favorite quote from the movie says “The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. And that’s what you’ve given me. That’s what I’d hoped to give you forever.”
With that we can all be assured that true love still exists somewhere out there just waiting for us to embark upon it.
